Activation Metrics That Actually Predict Revenue
Signups are a vanity metric. These are the five activation milestones we use to forecast revenue within a ten percent margin of error.

Every founder we meet tracks signups. Almost none can say which early behaviors predict revenue. That gap is why growth teams celebrate weeks that mean nothing and why boards quietly stop trusting dashboards. Activation is the bridge between acquisition and revenue — and it is measurable.
The five milestones we track
For every client we run a correlation analysis across the first ninety days of user behavior, then lock the three to five behaviors that best predict conversion. Typical winners: connecting a data source, inviting a teammate, reaching the product’s core output, integrating with an existing tool, and completing a first meaningful workflow. The specific actions matter less than the discipline of validating them against revenue, not intuition.
From milestones to forecast
Once milestones are locked, activation becomes a leading indicator you can plan against. In our client work, a ten percent move in milestone completion has predicted revenue four to six weeks out within a ten percent margin. That turns growth reviews from retrospective reporting into forward steering — which is the entire reason activation matters.
If your activation metric has never changed, you are not tracking activation. You are tracking a vanity number with a better name.
